The omega-3 oil in EQ Pure Arctic Oil is comprised of DHA and EPA concentrates from cod fished by fisheries situated in the Arctic Ocean. The MSC and CoC certified production facility Pharma Marine uses newly developed technology that includes an extensive cleansing process. This makes it possible for them to use highly nutritious marine material as a basis for manufacturing pure, sustainable omega-3 products of an especially fine quality.
These Norwegian cod fisheries (North east Arctic cod, haddock and saithe) are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). Pharma Marine has in addition the Chain of Custody (CoC) certification in accordance to MSC’s standards of maintaining traceability back to the previous lot. MSC certification represents the gold standard, as only 10 % of the World’s fisheries carry this certification.
The facility has a top-modern research laboratory, and it is counted among one of the most environmentally friendly omega-3 facilities.
Residual raw material from cod has been an important source of omega-3 for centuries. Cod fishing and manufacturing products derived from it has played an important part in the economical development of Norway for centuries. Seafarers could also live off of the proteins and vitamins they got from the nutritious and easily stored dried cod for months at a time.
The white gold, as many called it, made salted clipfish and cod liver oil into trade commodities during the Viking period, also traded for finer goods such as wine.
Around the middle of the 19th century the health benefits of fish liver oil became general knowledge. Cod oil was already well established as a good source of vitamin A and D when the Danish researchers discovered the healthy omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA in the 1970’s. After this cod oil became increasingly popular as a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.
