Moving through life it's normal to experience both ups and downs along the way. Do you often find yourself procrastinating, dreading going to work or feeling indifferent? These things might indicate that you are not living the life you want, and not being the best version of yourself. Lacking motivation is common amongst all people from time to time, but there are steps you can take towards feeling accomplished and satisfied with your life.
Identifying who you are
Before beginning the journey to becoming the best version of yourself it’s necessary to uncover who you are right at this moment. Putting all the superficial things like money and material possessions away and asking yourself what brings you joy. At what point in your life do you remember being the happiest? What activities do you enjoy doing? Who are the people that you feel most happy around? What is your ultimate purpose in life?
Seeing yourself through a lens of reality without criticism is important for your self development. When you are able to be honest with yourself, you can start to open up your thoughts and see your strengths and realise that you are capable of achieving what you want.
Expanding your comfort zone with rational thinking
It’s natural for people to want to stay in their comfort zone. It is a safe route to take in life where you don’t risk getting disappointed. However you don’t get to feel the rush and happiness when successfully completing a challenge. What is the worst that can happen if you were to try and work hard to reach one of your ultimate goals? Thinking rationally can help your mind get used to the different outcomes, and eventually render them harmless even if they are not what you are most hoping for.
Strengths and weaknesses
One of the things that might be limiting you is the decision to focus on your weaknesses. No person is made up of only strengths, but those who succeed usually see this as opportunities to improve themselves as opposed to doubting their own capabilities. Taking action and putting in the effort to work on yourself and grow can be a great step towards becoming the person you want to be.
Those who have become masters of their craft have good habits and helpful exercises that helped them get to where they are. You don’t have to be the greatest planner and stick to a strict regime. However there are benefits to having a routine for the activities that can help you towards a better self image. Does a 20 minute exercise impact the way that your day goes? Do you feel energised when you eat healthy and regularly throughout the day? Do you feel happy and accomplished when you have helped someone? Many small rivers turn into a vast ocean, and although these examples may seem small, positive actions throughout your daily life can empower you to follow through with your ambitious goals and dreams.
