In the picturesque region of Søhøjlandet, Denmark, a group of dedicated individuals is on a mission that transcends the boundaries of sportsmanship. They are a part of Team Rynkeby, a collective of cyclists united by a common cause: raising funds for children battling critical illnesses, particularly cancer. With every pedal stroke, they bring hope to those who need it most.
At the heart of Team Rynkeby's mission lies a simple yet profound goal: to collect as much money as possible for organisations supporting children with long-term illnesses, including the Børnecancerfonden (Children's Cancer Foundation) in Denmark. However, their reach extends far beyond national borders, as they support children in eight countries, making a global impact on paediatric healthcare.
Steen Secher, shares his inspiring journey of involvement in Team Rynkeby Søhøjlandet. Last year marked his inaugural ride with Team Rynkeby, culminating in a challenging yet deeply rewarding journey to Paris. This year, fueled by the spirit of camaraderie and a desire to contribute more, Secher returned to the cause with renewed vigour.
The path to becoming a Team Rynkeby participant often begins with a chance encounter or a word of encouragement. For Secher, it was a meeting with a team of riders during a gathering in Tivoli, Copenhagen. Intrigued by their camaraderie and inspired by the cause they championed, he embarked on a journey that would redefine his perception of cycling and community.
While the iconic ride to Paris serves as the pinnacle event, the journey begins long before the wheels hit the pavement. Months of rigorous training and fundraising efforts pave the way, with participants organising various events to garner support for their cause. From spinning and dancing extravaganzas to golf tournaments, each initiative embodies the spirit of altruism and vitality.
Yet, it's not just about cycling; it's about empowering individuals of all skill levels to join the cause. Beginners are welcomed with open arms, receiving guidance and support to navigate the technicalities of cycling. The road to Paris is not without its challenges, with long days of cycling. Together, they strive to maintain an average speed of 25-28 km/h to reach their destination with enough time to take a rest inbetween the challenging days. Yet, amidst the physical exertion and fatigue, the bonds forged among teammates shine brightest. The shared triumphs and hardships foster a sense of kinship that makes the race Paris an exceptionally memorable experience.
For Secher, the memories of crossing that finish line are etched forever in his mind - the jubilant cheers, the embraces of fellow riders, and the overwhelming sense of accomplishment. It's a celebration not just of personal achievement but of collective impact, as thousands come together to champion a cause close to their hearts.
As Team Rynkeby continues to expand its reach and impact, the underlying purpose remains the same: supporting children in their battle against illness. Every fundraising initiative, every mile conquered, is a testament to their commitment to paediatric healthcare.
Their motto, "everybody out, everybody home," encapsulates the essence of their mission - to ensure that everyone who participates in the race to Paris is equipped and supported all the way through, and to ensure that every child facing illness finds their way back home.
