Kerstin Krejci is a sports therapist with over 18 years of experience, specialising in physical therapy and performance optimisation for athletes. She works closely with professional runners from Kenya and Austria, supporting them through demanding training seasons and international competitions.
With years of experience observing how recovery, endurance, and resilience affect long-term performance, Kerstin has become deeply interested in the role of nutrition — particularly omega-3 fatty acids — in supporting the body’s natural balance under intense physical stress.
In 2022, Kerstin initiated a collaboration with Team run2gether to evaluate the effect of omega-3 optimisation in 15 professional Kenyan runners — including several world-class marathon and mountain athletes. The project took place over several months in Austria and began with comprehensive omega-3 and omega-6 testing using Eqology’s Pure Arctic Oil.
Before supplementation, every athlete completed an individual test and questionnaire, followed by a second test 4–6 months later. The goal was simple: to understand how personalised omega-3 optimisation could support recovery, training continuity, and long-term performance.
Even among top-level athletes, the first tests revealed unexpectedly low omega-3 levels. None of the runners had an Omega-3 Index above 6.4%, and the group average was only 4.6%. Some had omega-6:omega-3 ratios far from the recommended balance, highlighting how even elite nutrition plans can lack essential fatty acids.

After 4–6 months of daily use of Pure Arctic Oil, 11 out of 15 athletes showed significant improvement in their test results — many reducing their omega-6:omega-3 ratio by around 50%. Although it often took longer for the Omega-3 Index to reach the ideal range, due to hard training, traveling and inconsistencies in daily product intake, the athletes reported noticeable changes much earlier in their training routines.
Kerstin explains:
“We could see a gradual and measurable shift in the data, but what impressed me most was how the athletes described their experience — better recovery between sessions, more stable energy, and improved sleep quality.”
Patrick Kipngeno, double world champion in mountain running, began with an Omega-3 Index of 4.3% and a ratio of 19:1. After four months, his ratio improved and within one year, he achieved an 8.8% index and a 2.8:1 ratio — all while competing in 16 top-level races, winning several, and setting new course records.
Vincent Towett, an elite road runner with a 10K personal best of 27:42, increased his Omega-3 Index from 5.2% to 11.7% and improved his ratio from 14.2:1 to 2.6:1 within seven months — despite training volumes exceeding 600 km per month.
Purity and Caroline Gitonga, twin sisters and top-level runners, train up to 140 km weekly. Caroline, returning from pregnancy and a tendon injury, improved her levels steadily and returned to peak form — setting a new personal best of 14:46 over 5000m and 66:26 over the Half marathon in 2025.
Working with elite athletes means absolute responsibility for product quality and compliance. Eqology’s Pure Arctic Oil is listed on the Cologne List, ensuring it is independently tested and free from substances banned in sports.
“When you support athletes at the highest level, trust is everything,” says Kerstin. “We only use products that are transparent, certified, and scientifically documented — and that’s why we rely on Eqology.”
Over time, Kerstin’s team expanded their approach by integrating vitamin D3/K2, collagen, and the Nordic Energy Booster — always guided by test-based data and athlete feedback. The combined strategy has led to better recovery and more consistent training cycles.
“We’ve learned that science-backed nutrition can help athletes sustain performance season after season,” Kerstin reflects. “And when they can feel and measure the difference, it reinforces how valuable this approach really is.”
