Maaike Coljé has always been an active person. She felt motivated by the self improvement aspect of sports - getting better and seeing results. However it has not been her lifelong dream of becoming a professional cyclist. Maaike's initial interest in being a healthy and active person, some random happenings, plus an obvious sprinkle of talent directed her towards an exciting opportunity. Maaike invites us into her world, sharing her journey, challenges, and aspirations as she navigates the world of competitive cycling.
Maaike's journey towards optimal health and performance began with an Omega-3 Test, revealing a 4.8% index and a 7.1:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3. This revelation prompted a significant shift in her nutritional approach. Prior to embracing Eqology Pure Arctic Oil, Maaike had never used omega-3 supplements. However, collaborating with a nutritionist illuminated the essential role of omega-3 in her diet, especially as a professional athlete. Maaike's journey into professional cycling was a little out of the ordinary. While sports had always been a part of her life, her path to professionalism was unexpected. As a young girl she was drawn to ice and inline skating, Maaike's path shifted after a significant crash at 16. Because of this she needed to find other ways to stay active. That is how she discovered a passion for cycling around the age of 19, loving the freedom of exploring new landscapes. What began as a recreational pursuit quickly blossomed into a professional career, propelled by her innate talent. Despite initial reservations about pursuing cycling professionally, Maaike embraced the opportunity, recognising it as a unique life experience that would broaden her horizons and deepen her understanding of herself.
A typical day in Maaike's life is a harmonious blend of training, relaxation, and personal pursuits. Mornings commence with gentle breathing exercises and stretching, setting the tone for a day of physical and mental well-being. Following a nourishing breakfast, Maaike embarks on her training regimen, alternating between cycling and running sessions. Afternoons are dedicated to design work, leisurely walks, or culinary endeavors, culminating in cozy evenings filled with reading, drawing, or simply unwinding. Despite the joys of her lifestyle, Maaike acknowledges that there are challenges, where she has to find a good balance between physical exertion, mental resilience, and the uncertainties of injury and travel.
As Maaike looks to the future, her goals transcend the confines of cycling. While professional success remains a priority, her ultimate aim is to cultivate happiness and authenticity in every endeavor. Whether it be in cycling, design, or nutrition, Maaike is committed to pursuing her passions with dedication and integrity. Moreover, she aspires to leverage her experiences and knowledge to inspire and support others on their own paths to health and fulfillment. As she anticipates the adventures of what the next year has in store for her, Maaike is eager to explore new cultures and landscapes alongside her partner, reveling in the freedom of unscripted journeys and the joy of discovery beyond the confines of competitive racing.
